Play session 2:

We  have tried out another  version of our furniture unit.  This ables us to view the technical problems that our unit may have.

We added the middle part of the furniture because during the presentation we have not thought of a space for food and beverages. When table top swiveled, the middle table is easily accessible, since nothing blocks it (picture #3 and 7)

First prototype from the play session.

Filed under: Play — valngo @ 6:16 pm

This is the first prototype that we made during our play session. We had : a piece of cardboard, a chocolate box, some mylar paper, a coffee powder recycling bottle.

We split the coffee powder bottle from the top to bottom and opened it, deciding it would be the wrist rest for our laptop stand. The cardboard was folded in 3, so that it would be tilted towards the person using it (Picture #4 & 8). Then, we cut a piece of cardboard and cut a circle in the middle ; it was for the coffee cup, and the piece was connected to the laptop stand and could be swiveled under it. We also cut the chocolate box and added a plastic piece, to see how we would create a jar for Lisa to put pens of whatever she wants in it.

Cardboard Prototype

Filed under: Play — valngo @ 6:58 pm

Finishing building the cardboard prototype… and trying it! Trying to pile up Design Lounge’s sofas seat to a standard futon height, we realized some things that we needed to resolve, such as the table top being too short when swiveled on the opposite side, the folding panel’s (for the mouse) at the very end was not folding properly, therefore we had to find another mechanism to make it stand.

Play

Filed under: Play — valngo @ 6:18 pm

Play session: We spend 1 hour playing with materials that we brought in class. Materials include: coffee-mate plastic container, chocolate box, empty pen container and cardboard. We mainly focused on the wrist rest, drawers and we also thought of a piece that would hold and fit a standard size cup.  The coffee-mate container is cut into half, which we thought we can use as a arm-rest and when it turns around it can be converted into a storage devices; for stationary and other small items. The cup holder would be able to swivel accordingly.
