1 Influence of the play session

a)  role play, wrist rest (coffee mate container)

b)  drawer/tray for catching food/spillage

rough dimensions

different configurations of laptop stand support

–> determined that we don’t want something that traps the user

2 Influence of the research session

a) article on ergonomics, negative health effect of extended periods of laptop use

(Art)ifact : re-recognizing the essential of products (Cheung, Victor / Santos, Luísa)

b)  multi-function

3 Influence of 4 C’s

a) Context:

What is the cultural, functional, social, technological context?

      • Cultural: need driven by saving space, changing work habits / non-traditional usage of the home
      • Technological: modern product, way for people to use and interact with relatively new technological products (laptops)

Connection:

      • How should the design draw attention to the ways in which the consumer makes an  emotional attachment to the artifact?
      • Versatility, multi-functional
      • Mini-workspace
      • The artifact can play a passive role in the user’s lifestyle if the user so chooses, it does not necessarily imply a connection to work (or an office)
      • Is the designer’s perception of the user empathetic/realistic?
      • We took the broader context of the user’s lifestyle into account in developing the concept, we hoped to provide a product that was more than merely functional but could be integrated into the user’s working and lifestyle habits

Consumption:

What are the functional and emotional requirements of everyday use?

      • To be readily available to the user at any time, to not give the user the sense of being trapped

Closure:

How can the user’s disengagement become a positive experience?

This furniture allows her to multitask, capable to do so without limiting her.     Therefore, we successfully fulfilled her needs and wants.

Was the initial need fulfilled?

Eating area (removable and multi-purpose tray, limited distance to avoid a spillage), a multifunctional and compact furniture with many flexibility, a home-like furniture that does not have any office-like aesthetic (therefore Lisa will not feel that she needs to work when she sees the artifact), a rotating surface that does not limit her movements and displacement in her apartment. Furthermore, we will not need to find a second storage since the artifact stores itself and other things.
